The game is free. Supporting it buys looks, never an advantage.
What you make stays yours. Sharing it lets us show it and lets other players play it.
Be decent to other players, and don't cheat or break the game for others. Moderators can mute, suspend or remove content that breaks these rules.
You can delete your account at any time.
This summary is here to help. The full terms below are what apply.
1. Who we are and this agreement
Solar Vengeance Redux (the "Game") is run by Cosmic Ventures LLC ("Cosmic Ventures", "we", "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply when you play the Game, make an account, use its online features (multiplayer, the Community, profiles, chat, support) or buy a supporter plan.
By playing or creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Game.
2. Who can play, and your account
Anyone can play without an account. To create an account you must be at least 13 years old, or older where the law of your country sets a higher age for agreeing to online services without a parent's consent. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian should read these Terms with you.
Give a username and display name that follow the rules of conduct. We may change a name that doesn't.
Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Turn on two-step sign-in for extra safety; staff accounts must use it.
One person, one account for ranked play. Don't buy, sell, share or transfer accounts.
The Game is free to play. We keep improving it, so features, scenarios, rules, balance, ratings and looks may change, and some may be removed. Online features need our servers; we aim to keep them running, but they may be down for maintenance, updates or problems outside our control, and a game in progress may be lost when that happens.
We may change or stop the Game or any part of it. If we ever shut down the online service, we will give reasonable notice in the Game where we can.
4. What you make and share
You keep the rights you have in what you create: scenarios, Brains (computer opponents you program), names, profile choices, comments, ratings, support messages and chat ("Your Content").
Licence to us and other players
When you publish Your Content to the Community, post it, or use it in an online game, you give Cosmic Ventures a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, adapt (for example, to fit a screen or a new version of the Game) and distribute it within the Game and its promotion, for as long as it is shared. You also let other players play, view, copy and change shared scenarios and Brains for use in the Game. Taking an item down stops new copies; copies other players already made may remain.
Your responsibility
Only share what you have the right to share, and nothing illegal, hateful, sexual, or that infringes someone else's rights.
Brains and scenario scripts are code. They run inside a sandbox in players' browsers, but you must not write code meant to harm players, slow or crash their devices, get around the sandbox, collect data, or reach anything outside the game.
We don't check everything players share before it appears, and we aren't responsible for Your Content or other players' content. Play code made by others only if you trust it; the Game warns you when something runs a script.
5. Rules of conduct
Don't:
harass, threaten, bully or impersonate anyone, or post hateful, sexual, violent or otherwise offensive content, names or portraits;
spam, advertise, or flood chat, comments or tickets;
cheat: use bots, modified clients, exploits or bugs to gain an advantage, manipulate ratings, or play ranked games with or against your own accounts;
attack, overload, reverse-engineer for harm, or try to get unauthorised access to our servers, other players' accounts or data;
share other people's personal information;
break the law, or help anyone else do any of these.
A word filter hides slurs and strong swearing in chat, comments and descriptions, and won't accept names that contain them. Sending messages it has to hide again and again mutes your account for an hour automatically (a guest is removed from the room); a moderator can lift it.
If you find a bug that could be abused, please tell us through support instead of using it.
6. Moderation
Players can report content and other players. Our moderators may, depending on what happened: remove or hide content, rename an account, reset a portrait, mute an account (no sharing, commenting or rating for a while), suspend an account for a time or for good, or remove ranked results gained unfairly. Serious or repeated breaches lead to a permanent suspension. We keep a record of moderation actions. If you think we got it wrong, write to us through support.
7. Supporter purchases
You can support the Game with a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time "Forever" purchase. Supporting gives cosmetic extras on your account, such as premium colours, profile borders, banners and effects. It never gives an advantage in play.
Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. Prices are shown at checkout, including any taxes that apply where you live.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel any time from the Game (Support the game, then Manage or cancel). Your extras stay until the end of the period you paid for.
Forever means for as long as the Game's online service runs, on that account.
What you get is a personal, non-transferable licence to use the extras in the Game. They have no cash value, can't be traded or sold, and aren't refunded if your account is suspended for breaking these Terms.
Refunds. Because the extras are delivered immediately, purchases are generally not refundable, except where the law requires it or we decide otherwise. If something went wrong with a payment, contact us and we'll sort it out. Consumers in some countries have a legal right to withdraw from a purchase; by asking for immediate access you agree that this right ends once the extras are delivered, where the law allows that.
Changes. We may change the extras and prices. A price change for a subscription applies from your next renewal after we've told you, and you can cancel before it does.
Chargebacks. If a payment is reversed, we may remove the extras it paid for.
8. Open source
Solar Vengeance was created by Dion Kurczek of Silicon Commander Games and released under the MIT License in 2014. Solar Vengeance Redux is a remake based on that code, and its source code is published under the MIT License. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights that licence gives you in the code. These Terms cover the online service we run: accounts, servers, the Community, supporter plans and what players share there.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Account settings, under Your data. See Your Data for what is removed and what stays. Deleting your account ends any subscription; it does not refund time already paid for.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, or that has been inactive for a very long time, and we may refuse service where the law requires us to.
10. Disclaimers and limits
THE GAME IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND WE DON'T PROMISE THE GAME WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR THAT GAMES, SAVES OR DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, COSMIC VENTURES LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ABOUT THE GAME IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF WHAT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND US$50.
Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits, so they apply to you only as far as your local law allows. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.
You agree to cover our reasonable costs from claims by others caused by Your Content or your breach of these Terms, to the extent the law allows.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be decided in the state or federal courts located in Oregon, unless the law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring them in your local courts or under your local law. Before going to court, please contact us: most problems can be fixed with a message.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the Game changes or the law requires. We'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell you in the Game before they apply. If you keep playing after that, the new Terms apply. If you don't agree, you can stop playing and delete your account.
If any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part right away doesn't mean we give it up. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Game.
13. Contact
The quickest way to reach us is in the Game: open the account menu and choose Contact the team. A moderator answers there.
